OOTD (such a gloomy day)

Today was kind of gloomy, so I decided to wear florals to brighten at least myself up. We just went shopping at a couple of used book stores, grabbed dinner and then went to Target. They keep cats at the book stores and one jumped on me and tried to curl himself around my neck like a kitty scarf. I'm not really a cat person, but it was really funny (at least until I started freaking out that I couldn't figure out how to put him down again, lol).

I don't think anything I'm wearing is all that recent. The dress is from Target.com last year, the cardigan is from Old Navy, the belt is from Rainbow, the boots from DSW and the tights I just found in a drawer one day and have nooooo idea where they came from (I mean I know they're mine and I bought them, but when and where is a mystery)

Earrings and hair flower are both from Forever 21. My bff likes to shop there whenever we go to the mall. The accessories are the only things that fit me in that store, though. I wish anywhere near me would get a Faith 21 (I know it's Forever 21+ now, but I think that was a sucky name change on their part). Because of the lack of brick and mortar stores selling plus size clothing in my area, I am an online shopping queen.

Most of my makeup is Make Up For Ever (with Urban Decay liner in Electric) I'm not going to do a full break down since this isn't a FOTD post really.

Aaaaand this is scarf kitty. If you compare him to the books, he's a pretty big kitty to be just chilling on my shoulders. He never put out his claws or anything, though, so you could tell he liked me and trusted I wasn't going to drop him.

FOTD (snow storm in between the snow storms)

We received another joyous foot+ of snow last night which made my morning a nightmare. My mom and I shoveled our driveway (which is very small) for over half an hour. When I tried leaving for work, my car got stuck at the bottom of my (un-plowed) road. My brother helped me dig out from that kind of, but I couldn't get my car down the next road, so I tried to drive back up to my house. Nope. Had to have my mom come out and drive my car up the hill (everything is on a hill around here... we're just a network of hills) while my brother and I pushed it. More hilarity ensued (including me falling several times) and I will just say that I now hate snow. Hear me snow? I hate you. We're supposed to have flurries tomorrow followed by more snow Saturday.  To anyone else in New England - Be careful out there.

For tonight's makeup, I went with something I neeeeever do - Classic smoky eye colors. So as not to seem too Jersey Shore/Jerseylicious, I went ahead and paired it with the most adorable winter hat you've ever seen (admit it!)

NOTD (I hear hail outside!)

Anyone else in New England/Connecticut? How about this snow/hail/slush/rain? I love snow, but it's starting to bum me out actually. When the speed limit signs on the roads are completely buried, I think that's enough...

Today I tried out one of my mom's Zoya polishes with my favorite China Glaze glitter. I probably should stop posting before cleaning up. Usually I shower once my nails are dry (which they still aren't, I literally JUST did this) and that takes are of any polish that got on my skin.

FOTD (Last day of vacation from work)

The one thing I have learned about vacations is to not take any more (at least without a reason). They are horribly uneventful and boring.

Today's makeup (at least the eyes) is almost entirely the Urban Decay Naked palette. I was lucky enough to snap one up when they first came out (which means I have the old school one with the double liner and not the new one with the brush). I'm not even a neutrals kinda gal, so I don't know what possessed me to buy it, but I am very glad I did.

Products used:

  • Smashbox Photo Finish Primer
  • Revlon Photo Ready Foundation
  • Make Up Fore Ever HD Powder

Hello Kitty

Those who know me best (and now those who don't know me at all) know that I have a slight obsession with Hello Kitty. I say slight because I am not the kind to need a Hello Kitty themed car or anything, but I do probably have more of a collection than a 26-year-old should. If anyone should ever need to get me a gift, now you know where to start your search!

I apologize, some of my stuff gets a little dusty. I try and keep things clean, but my t-rex arms only reach so far (even with the help of a duster)

Hello Kitty utensils on the wall? Check!

I don't know who gave me this. It was duct taped to the outside of a Christmas present years ago and has been on my wall ever since.

My brother actually got this as a prize in his high school English class (no I don't know why they were given prizes at that age) I appreciate he picked something for me, though.

Yes, I have worn this hat out in public. I did not wear it when my bf and I went to NY, though, because he said it would get one of us beat up, lol.

I didn't dig out my HK clothes (pj's, socks and a bathrobe) and I think I have a few more things at work. You get the idea, though.

First post about nailpolish

I had to chop all of my nails off today as one broke something awful yesterday and heaven forbid they not all match, lol. I also pushed back and trimmed my cuticles for the first time in a while, so my apologizes that my nail beds look a little (lot!) rough. I wanted to show off a couple of my new polishes, though. The OPI one my bf bought me last night. It's very sheer (which I don't much care for, but it worked out ok on my short nails), but has an amazing golden duochrome in it. The base color is a pinky-purple. Over that I have a layer of Zoya polish which is a sheeeeeer sheer purple with purple glitter. I really should have read the description better before buying because the site plainly states it's not at all opaque. I was paying too much color to the amazing amounts of glitter, though.

FOTD (trying out Meow Cosmetics)

Yesterday afternoon I received all the samples I ordered from Meow Cosmetics. It was a long and anxious wait as I ordered while they were shut down for the holidays, so I had to wait from them to reopen and then time to process and ship. I can say that once they reopened, processing time was fast and shipping was fast as well.

The main reason I ordered is because I wanted to try out the mineral foundations. I had used Bare Essentials a few times and it made my face itch like crazy. I can only assume it was the bismuth as that seems to be the common thing people are sensitive to. While I was ordering from Meow, I got a few samples of their other products as well. Of course I only am trying a thing or two at a time, so today I am testing one of the shades of foundation (ordered several because I am a terrible matcher) and the eyeliner sealant (which I got a full size of with the intent to use it as a mixing medium)

Here is a shot of my new goodies (minus the stuff I used today because I put that in the other room before I thought to take a photo). They came packaged in a cute little animal print satchel:

Don't mind my yellow scarf, it's going to appear a lot as it's what I use to keep my hair back while I do my makeup.

And a rather unflattering closeup where you can see my nose ring up my nostril, but I liked the view of the lashes.

Products used:

  • Monistat Chafe Relief Powder-Gel as primer
  • Meow Cosmetics Pampered Puss: 1 Sleek Chausie
  • MAC Azalea Blossom Blush Ombre
  • Bobbi Brown Platinum Pink Shimmer Brick

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • Make Up For Ever Turquoise 302 Diamond Shadow (applied with the Meow Eyeliner Sealant)
  • Make Up For Ever Purple 92 Matte Shadow (applied with Meow Eyeliner Sealant)
  • MAC Milk Pigment
  • MAC Quietly Pigment (applied with Meow Eyeliner Sealant)
  • MAC Blonde's Gold Pigment (brows)
  • Fresh Supernova Mascara

  • MAC Fun Fun Lipstick (which would probably look better if I had exfoliated my lips first)

I can't say a whole lot about the foundation yet as I only just put it on. From the pictures, though, I feel like it looks pretty good and so far no itch. Yay for good first impressions!

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Crasin Bars

Last night I was hit with the need to bake something. I think it happened after seeing Leesha (xsparkage) post a video of her mom reviewing kitchen items. The thing is I'm lazy and didn't want to go and actually buy anything, so I had to work with what I had left in the house. That happened to be most of a bag of crasins, 14 bags of chocolate chips (don't worry, I only used 1 cup) and 3 tins of quick oats (only used a little of those as well) I used a recipe I found on Smart Cookie as a jumping board and went from there.

Of course the most important baking is an adorable spatula. I found this one in 2009 at Joanne Fabrics. Best $3 ever spent.

That's my trusty Sunbeam Mixmaster in the background. I don't have the money for anything so fancy as a KitchenAid and honestly my Sunbeam is a little trooper anyway. It's made me many years of delicious cookies and cakes and cupcakes.

Mix in the oven! It was most delicious unbaked. I like most of my baked goods best before they're baked.

Fresh from the oven. I feel like this is a "Myspace angle" shot of oatmeal bars if there were such a thing. Does it make them look thinner and "more beautiful"?

Aaaaand some close-up's. I told my boyfriend I was making these and he asked me to save him one. Usually I don't like the things I bake (I'm not much for cookies and cakes) but these were actually ok. In the end maybe I will only save him just one...
